Here at Heatherly we are blessed with fabulous in-house Interior Designers who look after our Melbourne and Sydney showrooms. These creative teams work magic with our clients on their bed designs and fabric selection.
We think it high time we share an insight into these talents, starting with Michelle Pennington of Pennington Interiors who heads up our Melbourne showroom.
Michelle lives in a Californian bungalow in Caulfield and talks with us about her recent bedroom updates.
What prompted you to update your bedroom Michelle?
Our bedroom was quite dark and moody with a lot of black accents and I wanted to make it lighter and fresher. To achieve this, we have recently repainted and removed wallpaper. We also upgraded to a King bed from a Queen, hence needing a new bedhead!
Tell us about your very special Heatherly bed…
The bedhead is my design, basically a stretched-out Portobello bedhead in an “antique” velvet which gives a slightly crushed effect teamed with a stunning Catherine Martin braid.
A footstool is often overlooked in bedroom designs. Why was it important to you?
I incorporated a Mercer footstool as the bed is high and it is now much easier to lace up my shoes. I love my stool to bits! I wanted something simple at the end of the bed so featured a leopard print linen in blue to pick up blue accents in the braid for a bit of fun. My husband doesn’t quite get it of course, but we know when something works, don’t we?
What other little features can you tell us about…
I have a gorgeous cashmere blanket from Heatherly Design on the end of the bed which is perfect for those cool Melbourne spring nights when hubby doesn’t want the down doona on the bed.
Also, a gorgeous mohair blanket from St Albans that we sell in the Melbourne showroom. It’s all about layers and different textures. The new bedside lamps add colour and I love my silk velvet cushions.
I’m constantly changing the art behind the bed as I like to move things around to refresh the look. Some of my artwork has appeared in the images that I have produced for Heatherly, such as the Anna Spiro photos.
We think you’ll agree that Michelle’s bedroom is just divine, and if you’d like to employ her expertise for your bedroom, she’d love to meet you for an appointment in our Melbourne showroom!
