The Iconic Kate Spade

When Georgie first approached me to look at Kate Spade fabrics for a possible bedroom shoot to add to our Art Series Collection I was beyond excited. Her feminine, whimsical designs of handbags and shoes were always a favourite, and to me they epitomised New York chic.
Her first collection of fabrics was a celebration of playfulness and sophistication. Beautiful beribboned linens, chenille velvet spots, handsome stripes, and quirky prints… All in her signature colours of emerald green, pinks, oranges, duck egg blues, and of course black and white.

So Where To Begin?
Our heads spun with possibilities. I even had my own Kate Spade inspiration board on Pinterest! I proceeded to pore over images of her Manhattan apartment and her upstate New York farmhouse. Her style is relaxed chic. Her interior spaces filled with art, collected decorative pieces, and beautiful upholstered furniture.
We toyed with the idea of doing an emerald green bedhead, but in the end our heart was won over by a delicate taupe linen with a white ribbon embroidery. This became our gorgeous Valentine bedhead. A simple serpentine curved bedhead, where the fabric is the star. We teamed it with our Adele footstool in her posie dot chenille. All set against a delicate pink panelled wall and accented with gold, pink, and a black and white box.

We were delighted with the result and we hope that maybe just maybe Kate did see our interpretation of her style. She was a great inspiration to myself and Georgie, and to all the other designers and clients who used her fabrics.
Vale Kate Spade.
