Meeting Amy Finch
I’ve been bowled over. In the most positive of ways… meeting Amy Finch – wife of Australian One Day International Cricket Captain, Aaron Finch. Stylish, warm and completely free of pretension, Amy is not your average WAG. Having recently renovated their Melbourne home, she came to Heatherly to create the perfect customised bed and footstool for her, Aaron and their two super cute rescue dogs, Frankie and Evie.
1. Your Instagram page is a wanderlust person’s dream, do you have a favourite place you love to return to?
Yes, absolutely. I’d love to return to New York. I was there about 6 years ago and Aaron and I are hoping (fingers crossed) to fit a short trip there sometime this year. It’s a city I don’t think you can ever spend too much time in, there’s so much to see and do and you can do it all at your own pace. It’s my absolute favourite city in the world and it would be great to be able to experience it with Aaron.

2. You always look amazing, how would you describe your personal style?
Oh thank you. Ummm, I really don’t know how I’d describe my style. To be perfectly honest what you see on Instagram doesn’t really reflect my day to day style. Most days you’ll find me in activewear (but yes, I actually do go to the gym most days also haha). Or I’ll be wandering around home in trackies and a T-shirt. Outside of that I like to mix things up a bit. As I’ve gotten older I tend to gravitate to a lot of basic options – jeans, tees, camis, blazers, denim skirts/jackets and sneakers. However I also love pieces that you can dress up or down, like a dress or a midi skirt and knits.

3. Who are the people that inspire you and why?
People that inspire me are those who take risks and are confident in knowing what they want to achieve in life. I think it’s easy to discuss the things you love in life and what your passions might be. But I really admire people who take the bull by the horns and take it on and try and make something of their passion. Whether it’s your career, a hobby or a side project I have a lot of respect for anyone who can identify their passion and run with it. I also admire mothers. We don’t have any kids but a lot of our friends and family do. I think mothers in general are very inspiring. It looks like the hardest job in the world, but one that comes with many rewards I’m sure.

4. Were you a cricket fan before meeting your husband Aaron?
To be honest, not really. I knew the basic rules. And I remember watching the One Day Internationals that Australia would play over summer when I was a kid with my dad. Aaron is well and truly a cricket nuffy. So I haven’t had much of a choice than to take a decent interest in the game now haha.

5. Your new Heatherly bed and footstool will a provide a retreat for you from your busy life travelling. Is there a book you’re looking forward to reading in bed?
I recently saw Elton John perform at Hanging Rock and I walked away a much bigger fan of his than when I walked in. So I’m keen to read his autobiography ‘Me.’ I’ve also got Celeste Barber’s ‘Challenge Accepted’ sitting on my bedside table at the moment. I bloody love her!

6. And finally, what made you choose Heatherly for your new custom bedhead and footstool?
We were in the market for a new bed for a while. Having adopted two little rescue dogs who like to share our bed with us, we were due to upgrade to a king size. We recently finished renovating our house and the fabric upholstered bedheads just jumped out at us. The one we chose in particular is simple but elegant and can work with so many colours. The footstool is something we’ve always wanted but never had an ideal bedroom size to accommodate, until now! We love the abundance of fabric and colour options that Heatherly offer so it was a simple choice for us.

A special mention must be made of Aaron Finch here. He made my cricket obsessed 14 year old son’s year, by sharing his time and tips with Leo at our photoshoot. Thank you Aaron!
