2020 has brought a lot of change. From how we work each day, how we educate our children to how we stay connected with friends and family. Our view of the world and how we want to live has shifted too. An awareness of our environmental impact and a desire to support local industry now informs many of our choices. And whilst home has always been a sanctuary, as we spend more time in them than we ever expected, we want our abodes to be as stylish, functional and cosy as possible. As we approach the coming summer with this different outlook, our inspiration is coming from closer to home, our beautiful Australian landscape and incredibly talented local designers. It’s time to look forward to warmer days as summer approaches and to shift our attention to creating the perfect coastal bedroom.
The Colour Palette
Drift away from the blue and white traditionally associated with coastal bedrooms and draw inspiration from the stunning yellow of the setting sun or the misty green of the early morning ocean. Keep the palette minimal and choose one colour to showcase with a statement bedhead.
Timeless, relaxed & functional
Always a place to feel safe, comfortable and retreat from the outside world, we have looked for ways to make our bedrooms even more so this year. Choose quality floorboards for your sea side retreat – they make cleaning the sand away much easier than carpet! Pay attention to the details of your room too. A footstool at the end of the bed, a bedside table for placing your books on and sheer drapes to soften the afternoon sun. Linen bedding always looks fresh in a coastal bedroom and feels only softer and better with time.
Layers & textures
Mix textures such as rattan, linen and timber in tonal shades for a modern touch. Layer throws to add warmth, comfort and interest but remember less is more in a coastal bedroom. A velvet or linen bedhead in a cool, calming colour will add a luxurious finishing touch.
The Local Touch
We have so many talented local artisans whose work helps create a uniquely Australian coastal bedroom. Major Minor have the most exquisite linen bedding which is weightier than standard at 180gms. Still & All captures our vast, stunning landscape with her incredible photography printed on a textured mould made cotton. And Ceramicist Hana Vasak sculpts the most beautiful pieces in organic shapes embellished with the imprint of textured shells.
