We always believe that bedtime is the best time, but even more so on chilly winter nights, darker weekend mornings or any time you can hear the pitter patter of rain on your roof.
At Heatherly, we can’t think of a more perfect way to enjoy winter than curling up in your bed all day with a feel-good book. But to create the ultimate winter hideaway, you might need to reconsider some of your styling to create a luxury bedroom sanctuary that will soothe your muscles and mind.
So grab a cup of tea, hot chocolate or even a Milo, get cosy under a blanket and read on for our favourite home decore trends to create a warm room and a fuzzy atmosphere that makes the most of the colder months.
Add warm colours
Colours play an important role in creating the right atmosphere in the bedroom to relax and unwind. Warm tones, such as moody maroons, dark grey and charcoal, earthy browns and rusts, spicy golden yellows, reassuring shades of green and rich jewel tones are not only on trend this season, but help to create a warm and welcoming ambiance in a space.
Is there ever such a thing as too many pillows and blankets in winter? All we know for sure is that there can never be too much texture. From custom fabric bed heads to fluffy cushions and cosy throw rugs, play with contrasting textures to striking effect this season. Here are three textures we are loving this season.
As far as mood-boosting tactility goes, it’s hard to resist our Bonnie Boucle Bed. Designed to evoke a sense of calm and comfort, the curved bed frame is dressed in either nubby eggshell or an enticing frost grey boucle. Our bolster cushions are also available in boucle and are the perfect back support for enjoying a page-turner in bed.
Exuding luxury, with an air of royalty and a hint of romance, it’s hard to resist our Palace Velvet fabric, which catches the light in a way that makes the surface of our bespoke bed heads come alive. For a subtler touch, consider layering our buttery soft velvet cushions.

While felt might be less showy than a velvet or boucle, the intrinsically cosy (and oh-so-strokable) fabric, is having a moment this season. Our exclusive Merino wool blend creates an understated luxury in the bedroom, as featured on our classic Fenwick Bed Head custom made in Augustus felt.

Update Your Bedspread
Winter is always a good time to evaluate your existing wardrobe; to add some fluffy knitwear, maybe woolly scarf, a new coat or pair of shiny boots. And our “bedrobe” should be no different. Update your linen closet with fresh sheets; consider upgrading the quality of your comforter; layer on a plush, cosy quilt and add a blanket which can be styled over the foot of the bed to add more texture.
Warm Up The Floors
If the first thing you do on a cold winter morning is put your bare tootsies onto cold hard floors, you are doing it all wrong. A super soft rug, or even a sheepskin beside your bed, will pass the barefoot test and help to create a cosier space this winter.
Create Calming Lighting
Creating a cosy space is all about the ambiance and lighting is key here. Swap out any bright white lighting with soft, warm bulbs in both lamps and overhead lighting. And obviously make sure you can switch off your lamp without having to get out of the covers. Even better, enquire about our custom cut outs in our bespoke bed heads to allow for easy access to power points — no more ugly, visible cords!
Scented candles can also add to your soothing environment. On a cold day, we love warm and enveloping notes such as spicy clove, sandalwood, tonka and wild lavender.
Declutter Your Space — And Mind
If you want to relax in a space, a pile of clothes on a chair in the corner is never going to set the right tone. Make sure your bedroom is kept clean of clutter for a peaceful night’s sleep — you would never find odd socks, dirty coffee mugs, empty tubes of hand cream and unopened mail in a hotel suite. And if you are short on storage, why not consider a gas lift bed —the unsung hero of storage. Raising the bar (quite literally) in innovative bedroom design, the hidden storage is easily accessible with a simple lift of the mattress. Our gas lift bed base design not only fuses form and function, but can also be personalised with over 40 bed head designs and more than 100 fabrics to choose from, so you can co-ordinate your bed base with your bedhead to create a seamless full bed.

The Perfect Bedside
Your bedside table should not only add to the overall style of your bedroom space, but they should encourage some night-time rituals that help you to unwind at the end of a long day. Whether it’s a place to pop down your cup of calming herbal tea; to keep a journal where you can jot down your thoughts and free your mind before rest; to organise your night creams for some self-care before your head hits the pillow; or to keep a thrilling winter novel that allows you to escape before you settle in for sweet dreams.
Whatever you keep on your nightstand, it should set the scene and encourage you to jump into bed and make the most of your bedtime this winter.
