Notes from nature: the colours you need to know this spring
Of all the changes of seasons, the transition from winter to spring comes with the biggest anticipation of brighter days.
Suddenly, the mornings are little warmer, the evenings a little lighter and blossom begins to tickle the branches of trees that have been bleak for months.
Nature undergoes a spring awakening, and in a sense, we all wake from our winter slumber. Whether it’s playing in the park, walking along the beach or dining alfresco, spring always comes with the promise of more time spent outdoors.
And having spent more time tucked up in our homes than usual, it makes sense that our longing for the outdoors also has us wanting to bring the outside, inside.
This season’s interior colour trends have taken their cue from Mother Nature with rich colours that convey a sense of cosiness.
With an emphasis on warm undertones — after almost a decade of cool greys dominating our interiors — the colour palettes gaining popularity this season are both inviting and comforting. Here’s how to best incorporate them into your bedroom.
Down to earth
There is an innate cosiness and grounding force in the buff neutrals of the great outdoors that makes them ideal for the bedroom and custom bed heads.
From sandy beige and stone to richer shades of bark and clay, the familiarity of earthy tones create a welcoming bedroom space where you can easily unwind.
As well as feeling intimate and inviting, it is worth noting that there is also a sophistication to gentle neutrals, offering the perfect canvas to play with natural textures such as linen, wood and ceramics or as a backdrop to for Hamptons or coastal luxe styling.

Getting back to nature
Take a leaf out of nature’s playbook with calming shades of green. We are loving Porter’s Paints new colour, ‘Bayleaf’: a complex, warm green with earthy undertones that is both bold and calming— making it perfect for the bedroom. We love this shade paired back with our Bonnie Boucle bed in Ivory with layers of moss, sage and olive bedding to add extra texture and interest. Natural wooden or rattan accents also compliment the lush shades of green this season, capturing an appreciation for natural beauty.

Dive into the blue
Aquatic blues that take their inspiration from the ocean not only bring a sense of tranquillity to a bedroom, but their uplifting shades can also infuse optimism. To create an energetic space, look for bold cobalt, marine and sapphire while for a calmer, more serene setting, opt for a powdery pastel blue, duck-egg or cooler bluish greys which help switch to a more mindful mindset before bed. For complimentary shades, blue always looks freshest paired back with crisp white, while this season’s ochre and terracotta shades also create an interesting dynamic.

Florals
For those wanting a bolder take on the spring trend, florals are also in full bloom again— both outdoors and in.
Vibrant hues such as rich jewel tones, lively reds and saturated shades of saffron add plenty of cheerfulness to the bedroom. We love seeing our bespoke bed heads lavishly swathed in pretty petals and brightly hued blooms for a bedroom that makes a bold style statement. To keep the look contemporary, pair back with neutral bedding, plain walls and window furnishings, classic bedside tables and warm lighting.
