Meet Zara, Heatherly’s first modular bedhead

For more than 15 years, Heatherly Design has been crafting custom bedroom furniture to suit every space, taste and lifestyle. As our relationship with our homes and how we live continues to evolve, we are once again looking to push the boundaries of bedroom design to set a new standard in modern luxury.
While personalisation has always been a cornerstone of our approach — from our bespoke designs to unique fabric selections— as more consumers seek out slower, high-quality alternatives to mass production, we wanted to explore the broader realm of flexibility in bedroom furniture design.
With that, we are thrilled to introduce you to Zara, Heatherly’s first modular bed head.
Offering customised bedroom furniture at your fingertips, the Zara bedhead extends our commitment to tailored luxury and allows you to shape your bedroom space in unprecedented ways.
Ingeniously designed to be easily assembled and disassembled, Zara offers unparalleled flexibility, catering to the demand for adaptable furniture design. With Zara, you can effortlessly upsize or downsize your bedhead, styling it with only the central panel or all three to create a wider finish behind your bedside tables.

Zara is designed in three panels, allowing you to adapt your space to your size and style needs.
To celebrate the launch of one of our most innovative designs, we sat down with Heatherly Founder & Director Georgie Leckey to reveal the inspiration and vision behind the unique design.
HD: What inspired the creation of the Zara modular bedhead, and what was the driving force behind this innovative design?
GL: In the ever-evolving landscape of interior design, a notable shift has occurred over recent years—one that celebrates individuality and embraces the idea that our living spaces should not be confined to rigid, one-size-fits-all solutions. This has given rise to a new era of interior design, where flexibility takes centre stage.
While we have always allowed our customers to customise the size and style of their bedhead, this is the first design to offer a modular experience, allowing our clients to tailor the bedhead to their unique space. This week alone I have had two clients in two different states both facing challenges around installation. Whether it be moving into a new home where their existing bed won’t fit, or restrictions in inner city apartments where furniture won’t fit inside a lift. Zara solves challenges in both logistics and longevity while remaining stylish and customisable to the client’s aesthetic.
HD: What key features make Zara an ideal choice for those looking for flexibility in bedroom design and adaptable furniture solutions?
GL: We know that one size does not fit all in the world of luxury design. This is why we spent a lot of time refining the intentional design of the Zara bedhead. It’s amazing how many clients have wanted to have their heads cut down after moving to a new home.
Zara’s design is centred around adaptability. The option to use only the central panel or add all three allows for effortless resizing, catering to the evolving needs of modern consumers. It’s perfect for those who relocate or want to change their bedroom’s aesthetic. Additionally, Zara’s easy assembly and disassembly make it a functional, flexible, and sustainable choice for those who value both style and practicality. The streamlined panels, adorned with contrast piping, give it a contemporary and sophisticated look, and its wider frame extends seamlessly behind bedside tables, creating a harmonious backdrop.
HD: Can you elaborate on the customisation options available with Zara and how customers can tailor it to their unique preferences and spaces?
GL: Zara places the power of design in your hands, allowing you to curate your bedhead to match your vision perfectly.
Capitalising on the comforting curve aesthetic, the three streamlined panels are accentuated with inlaid contrast piping. While we chose pure flax linen with a black piped edge for our campaign, customers can choose from over 100 premium fabrics to bring their bed heads to life.
As well as being upholstered in your selection of high-end materials, you can also tailor the width of the end panels to meet your unique design vision.

HD: What materials and craftsmanship techniques were employed to ensure the quality and longevity of the Zara bedhead?
GL: The Zara bedhead exemplifies our commitment to quality and craftsmanship. As with all our designs, Zara is handcrafted in Melbourne by our skilled upholstery professionals. The bed is upholstered in premium fabric with the highest attention to detail. With over 15 years of experience, you are not only investing in a high quality product but years of refinement and heritage.
HD: How do you see Zara contributing to a more sustainable approach to furniture design, given its adaptability and potential longevity?
GL: Zara embraces sustainability through its adaptability and longevity. By offering a piece that can be resized and reconfigured easily, we reduce the need for customers to replace their furniture when they move or their preferences change. This adaptability not only reduces waste but also extends the lifespan of the product. It’s a step toward more sustainable consumption in luxury interiors.
HD: Are there any specific design influences or trends that played a role in shaping the aesthetics of the Zara bedhead?
GL: We still can’t get enough of curves. Combining two of our favourite traditional and modern elements, Zara celebrates the beauty of curves and the power of contrast with its inlaid piping.
Extended silhouettes and wider bedheads are also proving increasingly popular as consumers seek to design a sleep environment that promotes the utmost relaxation and rejuvenation.
The three-panel configuration of the Zara creates a wider bed head, allowing it to sit neatly behind bedside side tables. This creates a striking focal point in the bedroom, making the space feel more streamlined and indulgent.
